Recognizing Today's Leaders in the Field of Pharmacy
The Minnesota Pharmacists Association annually recognizes leaders in the field of pharmacy. Below is a listing of award categories
and criteria. All recipients must be members of MPhA, practicing in Minnesota, and not have previously been awarded the category
nominated for. A listing of past award winners is listed at the bottom of this page.
Award nominations are due to the MPhA office by February 29, 2008.

HAROLD R. POPP AWARD -
Nomination Form
Sponsored by the Minnesota Pharmacists Association, the Popp Award was established by MPhA in 1969 in honor of the late
Senator Harold R. Popp to recognize one pharmacist annually for outstanding services to the profession of pharmacy.
- Outstanding service to the profession of pharmacy.

BOWL OF HYGEIA AWARD -
Nomination Form
Sponsored by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, the Bowl of Hygeia recognizes pharmacists who possess outstanding records of civic leadership
in their own communities.
The Bowl of Hygeia symbol derives from Greek mythology and is the most widely recognized international symbol of pharmacy.
Hygeia was the daughter and assistant of Aesculapius (sometimes spelled Asklepios), the God of Medicine and Healing. Her classical
symbol was a bowl containing a medicinal potion with the serpent of Wisdom (or guardianship) partaking it. This is the same serpent
of Wisdom that appears on the caduceus, the staff of Aesculapius, which is the symbol of medicine.
- Outstanding record of community service, from which their specific identification as a pharmacist reflects well on the profession.
- Cannot be currently serving (or served in past two years) as an officer of the association in other than ex-officio.

DISTINGUISHED YOUNG PHARMACIST AWARD -
Nomination Form
Sponsored by Pharmacists Mutual Companies, the Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award recognizes a young pharmacist who has
distinguished himself/herself in the field of pharmacy.
- Entry level degree in pharmacy received less than ten years ago.
- Practice community, institutional, managed care or consulting pharmacy in the year selected.
- Participation in national pharmacy associations, professional programs, state association activities and/or community service.

INNOVATIVE PHARMACY PRACTICE AWARD -
Nomination Form
Sponsored by Elan Biopharmaceuticals, the Innovative Pharmacy Practice Award recognizes innovative pharmacy practice resulting in
improved patient care.
- Demonstrates innovative pharmacy practice resulting in improved patient care.

PHARMACY TECHNICIAN AWARD -
Nomination Form
Presented by MPhA, the Pharmacy Technician Award recognizes pharmacy technicians in any practice setting who demonstrate leadership
in their work and in their community. This award is presented at the annual MPhA/MSHP Technician Conference.
- Currently practices as a pharmacy technician in any pharmacy practice setting in the year selected.
- Demonstrates professionalism by participation in pharmacy association, professional programs and/or community service.
- Promotes teamwork within the pharmacy, provides leadership and serves as a role model for coworkers.
- Develops or assists development of efficient safe procedures that support the provision of pharmaceutical care.

MANAGED CARE PHARMACIST OF THE YEAR AWARD -
Sponsored by the MPhA Managed Care Academy, the Managed Care Award recognizes a pharmacist who has demonstrated innovation in a
managed care pharmacy setting and leadership in advancing the role of the pharmacist in a managed care setting.
- Demonstrated innovation in a managed care pharmacy setting.
- Shown leadership in advancing the role of the pharmacist in a managed care setting.
