This summer, several important revisions to our Pharmacy Practice Act went into effect. One change expanded pharmacist immunization authority to allow administration of influenza vaccines to all eligible individuals 6 years of age and older (previous language was 10 years of age and older) and all other vaccines to patients 13 years and older (previous language was 18 years of age and older). Additional immunization language requires pharmacists to check Minnesota Immunization Information Connection (MIIC) prior to administering any vaccines, except when administering influenza vaccine to individuals age nine and older and to report all vaccine administration to MIIC. These changes were, in part, the result of grassroots efforts from MPhA, MSHP, the College of Pharmacy, Duluth Area Pharmacists, and others representing the Pharmacy Practice Act Joint Task Force (PPAJTF).
To help support these changes, MDH staff are offering two webinars for pharmacists.
