Leveraging Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI)

In this session, participants will discuss continuous quality improvement (CQI): 1) why it's crucial for pharmacists to understand and use, 2) how it should be employed to analyze problems, test and study interventions, and create sustainable change, and 3) what CQI looks like when applied to a real-world healthcare problem.

Speaker: Lara Kerwin, PharmD

Lara Kerwin received her PharmD degree from the University of Missouri - Kansas City (UMKC) School of Pharmacy in 2015. During pharmacy school, she developed a passion for professional advocacy, patient-centered care, and mentorship as part of APhA-ASP, Phi Lambda Sigma, and the Missouri Pharmacy Association (MPA). Dr. Kerwin is completing year two of the Pharmaceutical Care Leadership Residency with the University of Minnesota-College of Pharmacy (UMN-COP) PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency Program. She spent year one of her residency training at Smiley’s Family Medicine Clinic and has spent the last year developing a new ambulatory care practice at the North Memorial Golden Valley family medicine clinic with a large focus in continuous quality improvement to optimize care for patients with diabetes In 2016, Dr. Kerwin also developed and taught a course in continuous quality improvement to third year pharmacy students at the UMN-COP. After completing residency, Dr. Kerwin will joining the faculty of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy in St. Louis, Missouri, as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ambulatory Care. Here, she will continue her passion for mentoring student pharmacists and incorporating leadership, interprofessional teamwork, and quality improvement principles into her practice, teaching, service, and scholarship.

Continuing Education:

This presentation is being submitted to the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy for Continuing Education credit approval (one hour).

To receive Board of Pharmacy credits for this program the following must be completed:

  • Full participation/completion of webinar either during the live program or the archived presentation

  • Completion of survey post webinar acknowledging participation

Board of Pharmacy credit processing takes place on the 15th of each month.

The Minnesota Pharmacists Association is accredited by the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.
