Opportunities to Provide Tobacco Cessation Help to
Medicaid Enrollees Who Smoke or Vape
The Minnesota Department of Health has an initiative which will provide opportunities for tobacco cessation help to Medicaid enrollees. Our webinar will discuss this initiative and how pharmacists can engage in this work.
- Identify the current use of tobacco in Minnesota and how this has changed over the last decade.
- Discuss the smoking rate for Medicaid enrollees and how to decrease it.
- Implement a program to assist Medicaid patients with smoking cessation.
- Utilize tools from the Minnesota Department of Health when creating a program.

Minnesota Department of Health (MDH)
Laura Oliven is the Tobacco Control Manager for the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). She leads the MDH Tobacco Prevention and Control Program and directs tobacco control state and local level policy change strategy, community grant making, the new statewide tobacco cessation services program, and health equity work. Laura is passionate about building health communities and has been active in tobacco control and health promotion for over two decades. Laura has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois and a Master of Public Policy from the Georgetown Public Policy Institute.
The cost is $25 for non-members. MPhA pharmacist members, pharmacy technician members and student members may attend at no cost.
This presentation is being submitted to the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy for Continuing Education credit approval (one hour).
To receive Board of Pharmacy credits for this program, the following must be completed:
Board of Pharmacy credit processing takes place on the 15th of each month.
