On March 12, the Minnesota Senate Health and Human Services Finance and Policy Committee, chaired by Sen. Michelle Benson, met to discuss a series of bills that include two pieces of legislation related to pharmacy practice. The first is Senate File 3556 (http://bit.ly/MN-SF3556), pertaining to pharmacist administration of drugs through intramuscular and subcutaneous administration. Pharmacists testifying included MPhA Executive Director Dr. Sarah Derr, MPhA Past President Michelle Aytay, and Board of Pharmacy Director Dr. Cody Wiberg.

The second bill was Senate File 1960 (http://bit.ly/MN-SF1960) pertaining to pharmacists prescribing self-administered hormonal contraceptives, tobacco and nicotine cessation medications and products, and opiate antagonists. Testifying in support of the bill were Dr. Sarah Derr, Dr. Megan Mattson (an OB-GYN), Dr. Lisa Mattson (an MTM pharmacist at Ridgeview Medical Center), and Dr. Cody Wiberg. Both bills were introduced by Sen. Scott Jensen, and both were passed unanimously out of committee. Audio will be available here (http://bit.ly/MN-Senate-audio) when it becomes available.
