For many pharmacy professionals, the ultimate goal may be pharmacy ownership. Owning and managing a pharmacy can provide freedom and the ability to create and offer new patient care services. However, the process of buying an independent pharmacy or opening one can be complex. In this webinar, you'll learn the keys steps that need to be taken to successfully open or buy an independent pharmacy. Whether you are a recent graduate or have been practicing for some time, you will pick up tips to help navigate the decision and process of opening or buying a pharmacy.

Upon successful completion of this activity, pharmacists should be able to:

  1. List the steps that need to be taken to start up or buy a pharmacy
  2. Explain the opportunities that exist to pharmacy ownership
  3. Describe considerations that need to be made before opening or buying a pharmacy
  4. Explain how to interpret pharmacy financial statements

Presenter: Nick Secrest, Regional Manager RxOwnership

Nick has been with McKesson since 2009. Before joining the RxOwnership team, he was a Retail Sales Manager in the Eastern Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin and Missouri territories, working directly with independent pharmacy owners to develop and execute strategic growth plans. He graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Sales. As a member of the RxOwnership team, Nick consults with buyers, sellers and owners looking to start up a pharmacy.

Nick’s role in multiple pharmacy acquisitions makes him a valuable guide in assisting those interested in making their ownership goals a reality.

Continuing Education:

This presentation is being submitted to the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy for Continuing Education credit approval (one hour).

  • Completion of survey post webinar acknowledging participation

Board of Pharmacy credit processing takes place on the 15th of each month.

The Minnesota Pharmacists Association is accredited by the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.
