In this webinar we will cover the history and content of the NIOSH List of Antineoplastic and Other Hazardous Drugs (HDs) in Healthcare Settings, and USP Chapter <800> as it applies to all pharmacies. Additionally, we will discuss in more detail the requirements and process for a pharmacy to list HDs in stock and for performing a risk assessment. We will also review the physical requirements of the pharmacy, personal protective equipment (PPE), and staff training requirements.
Following the webinar, participants will have learned to:
- Review the history and content of USP Chapter <800> and the NIOSH List of Antineoplastics and Other Hazardous Drugs in Healthcare Settings.
- Describe the process to construct an HD list and perform HD risk assessments for your pharmacy.
- Define the key engineering controls required for compliance with USP Chapter <800>.
- Review the types and specifications of the personal protective equipment required when handling HDs.
- List the elements required in your hazardous drug staff training program.
Presenter: Denise Frank, BPharm, RPh, Principal Frank Consulting, LLC
Denise Frank is a pharmacist with 30+ years of experience, and currently an independent consultant in the areas of pharmacy practice, technician training, compounding, pharmacy and wholesaler accreditations, and operational and regulatory compliance. She is also a former member of the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy.
Previously serving as a surveyor and then the Accreditation and Inspection Services Manager for NABP, her responsibilities included development and maintenance of accreditation and inspection programs, and supervising NABP inspectors. Prior to this, she was an independent pharmacy owner, worked for a health-system, and was a pharmacy manager and district manager for a pharmacy chain.
